Welcome to Our Blog!
Welcome to the Book Publicity School blog!
You may be thinking, aren’t blogs so 2009? Maybe, but they are also very 2025. In this first post, we’ll state our case, discuss what you’ll find here, and share the lesson authors can take from our return to blogging.
We all know that the media world is completely fractured. There are now tens of thousands of worthy outlets and just as many ways to get attention for your book. Social media is its own multi-headed beast, with no “one-stop-shop” platform for authors anymore. For many years, Twitter was the place to be for writers, and many people dedicated years to growing an audience there—but things changed when Elon Musk bought it. The changes don’t stop there: people are fleeing Meta, BlueSky is growing, and Tiktok’s future is … hard to predict. The upheavals go on.
In such a fickle digital environment, it's critical to own as much of your content as you can. When you post on a social media platform, you are ‘renting’ space. Yes, it’s free, but you have no power if the algorithm changes, the platform folds, or the CEO gets rid of content moderation.
Make sure that alongside whatever social platforms you use you’re also posting the highlights of your material on your author website. Think of this space as one of the only pieces of digital real estate that is all yours. This means nobody can buy or distort your message; you have full control of your narrative.
Given the current landscape, it’s also a good idea to connect with your audience on multiple social platforms in case they stop using one. Don’t be afraid of some redundancy.
It’s also important to acknowledge that almost everyone will miss almost everything you post. We have plenty of followers that get our newsletters or follow us on LinkedIn but who still miss some highlights. So this blog is the place you can find a whole bunch of them! On top of that you’ll find tips and strategies we’ve posted on social media, snapshots of our PSPR campaigns, and much more.
Happy reading!
